Photo access

Pruna needs access to your photo library to find what takes up space. With full access it looks at your whole library; with limited access it works only with the photos you selected, and the Clean screen offers "Select more".

To change access, open iOS Settings and choose Pruna › Photos (on iOS 18 and later: Settings › Apps › Pruna › Photos). If access is off, Pruna still opens and explains how to turn it on.

Where deleted photos go — and when space is freed

Nothing is deleted without your OK: iOS asks you to confirm every deletion. Deleted photos and videos move to the Recently Deleted album of the Photos app and stay there for 30 days, so you can recover them.

Space is freed only when they leave that album — when you empty it in Photos (Albums › Recently Deleted), or automatically after 30 days. That is why Pruna says "up to" a certain amount is freed.

iCloud Photos

With iCloud Photos, deleting a photo removes it from every device signed in to the same Apple Account, after the same 30 days in Recently Deleted.

Pruna analyzes the photos stored on your iPhone. With "Optimize iPhone Storage", some photos exist only in iCloud; they may be left out of similar-photo and blurry-photo detection until they are on the device again. Showing a preview of such a photo may download it from iCloud.

Live Photos

"Keep as still" replaces a Live Photo with a still photo and moves the original Live Photo to Recently Deleted. The motion's space is freed once Recently Deleted is emptied. If you'd rather remove a Live Photo completely, you can delete it instead.

Swipe

Swipe right to keep and left to delete, month by month. Your decisions are saved and you can undo them. Nothing is deleted until you open the list of marked photos and confirm.

Contact backups

Before every merge or deletion, Pruna saves a vCard backup of the affected contacts on your iPhone. The ten most recent backups are in Settings › Contact backups, where you can restore or share them.

Restoring adds back only the contacts that are no longer on your iPhone, so nothing is duplicated. Contact notes are not part of a backup — Pruna can't read them.

Calendar backups

Before every deletion, Pruna saves an .ics backup of the affected events. Restore or share it in Settings › Calendar backups; restoring adds back only events that are no longer in your calendars.

Repeating events that still go on are never offered for deletion. Invitees can't be restored — a meeting comes back as your own event — and, depending on your calendar provider, deleting a meeting you organized may send a cancellation to its invitees.

Vault

The vault is encrypted on your iPhone and opens with your PIN, Face ID or Touch ID. If you forget your PIN, choose "Forgot PIN?" and enter your iPhone passcode on the same iPhone to set a new one. We can't open or reset your vault.

The vault moves to a new iPhone with an encrypted backup of the old one; open it there with your PIN and set up Face ID again. Items deleted from the vault are gone for good — save them to Photos first if you want a copy.

Subscriptions

To restore a purchase on a new iPhone or after reinstalling, open Settings in Pruna and choose "Restore purchases".

To manage or cancel your subscription, choose "Manage subscription" in Pruna's Settings, or open iOS Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

If your subscription ends, your vault stays open: you can still open, export and restore everything in it.
